Hey Tim!
U r such a unique amazing player. I love ur playing on janeks 55 bar record. Ur solo on culture is sooo good man. I’m very much moved by it and that is a standout solo I’ve heard n the last decade.

As far as guitarists go I’ve yet to find another player who utilizes as much space as you. Even when the band is really intense and pushin it u seem so comfortable with playing a simple melodic passage and letting it breathe for a couple beats or even measures.

Any recommendations for getting comfortable using and hearing that amount of space and simpler, lyrical melodies in pop or rock music?

Hi Mark,
Thanks for the kind words! I really appreciate it!
I like to hear what the band will do after I stop playing. What they play will often be the spring board for what I play next. Leaving space allows them to have a part in the musical conversation.
Another side of this topic is phrasing. I strive for clarity and motivic development. Space between musical phrases gives a natural form to the improvisation.
