Hi Tim and Forum Members:

I happen to like drum solos. I think they are as interesting as any other soloing instrument. I often hear drummers soloing in the form of trading fours, eighths, or soloing over vamps. I, personally, have not commonly heard drummers soloing over the entire form as say, a sax player, pianist, or guitarist would. Your thoughts would be interesting and helpful.

Thanks,
/Tom

Hi Tom,
Occasionally a drummer will take a chorus or two on a standards gig. It depends on the player, but some drummers that I play with like to improvise over the form.
Best,
Tim
